| We used the 12 amp Toro 1800 this weekend with two snowfalls. No gas to worry about mixing. No smoke or fumes. I plugged it in and off I went on my paved driveway. It's designed for paved surfaces. It is very light so I directed it with one hand and kept track of the cord with the other. It plowed through 5 inches of snow with ease. Turning the chute to direct where the snow should be blown is a feather touch. My wife thought we should have kept our old gas unit but after seeing this one do its job she's convinced this is a very good product. Benefits: no gas to store; plug in and go; lightweight; noise is less than with gas unit; easy to learn how to start from a point nearest the plug and then outward. Feels like toy but works like a serious machine. Cons: assembly requires a little patience and strong hands. I have arthritis but I got it completed in an hour. PS: the box is intelligently designed so the unit rolls out on its wheels. No lifting is required to get it out of the shipping carton. That was smart. |

| I have had my current unit for 12 years and it still works great. It is terrific not to have to deal with the maintenance issues of a gas unit. Where I used to live in Northern NJ, my drive was between two houses and 110' long so a lot of the snow had to be moved twice. Now I live in Massachusetts and have a gravel drive. I do have a few tips for new users. 1. MOST IMPORTANT, if you need a 100' cord (and you probably do) make sure it is 12 gauge wire. I burned the motor out of the first one I owned by using a 150' 14 gauge extension cord. If you burn out the motor you might as well buy a new unit because the motor itself is about $260. 2. It can be difficult to get thru snow higher than about 10". When you are in deep or wet snow, don't take a full width bite. 3. On the street plowed pile at the end of your drive, break it up with a shovel. |

| I was surprised how well this little unit threw snow. What was normally a 90 minute task to shovel my driveway, is now a quick 15 minute job with this unit. A few notes to be aware of. First, heavy thick snow up to the height of the intake is for the most part thrown just fine. You may have to put your back into it to push it at times. Second, frozen piles of icy snow from the blow built up at the end of your driveway can be a bit tricky. I have taken an ice chipper after this to break it up before attacking it with this snow thrower.
The advantages of this unit is that it is small, light, and works. I can move it into the attic of my garage during the summer so it doesn't take up a large footprint of my garage when I'm not using it. No stabilizing it, mixing gas, and expensive maintenance. Biggest cons are expensive extension cords, avoiding the cord when throwing snow, and less acceptable during very heavy snow loads. Yes, it does work, and it works well. Toro has a great warranty. I may be a bit more work with snow over a foot. If you often get more snow that a foot, you may want to look at a nice 2 stage gas snow blower.
